Research
"Docendo discimus" By teaching, we learn. – Seneca
My research forms a central part of my development as both an artist and an educator. I am particularly interested in exploring how the perceived hierarchy of subjects within the Irish education system influences students’ engagement with art, and how creative practice can challenge these assumptions. Through my work, I investigate the ways in which visual art can support adolescents’ personal, social, and cognitive growth, encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, and self-expression.
This research allows me to engage deeply with historical, philosophical, and sociocultural contexts, enriching both my studio practice and my teaching. By understanding the broader significance of art in education, I aim to develop strategies that empower students, foster meaningful learning experiences, and highlight the essential role of creativity in shaping well-rounded, reflective individuals.
